There are many people who decide to change their careers. There was a time where you chose your profession and stuck with it until retirement and many people still follow that path. Nowadays, many people give up their first-choice career for something new. Many choose to move to a different country, or explore a new skill, but others just move their skills to another sector.

Do you think you can convince an executive search agency that it's best for you if you switch careers? How do you demonstrate that you haven't lost any of your abilities?

Switching careers is a brave thing to do. Your income, working hours, and even where you live will be affected. It's not an easy decision, and people view it differently. If you're going to travel or study, then make the best out of the experience.

Executive search firms want the right people for a job. If you have switched careers or taken a break and want to sign on with an executive search firm, then it's a good idea to make an appointment to go and see them. This gives you the opportunity to talk with the consultant and explain why you took a change in career. Whatever your experience, you should be able to use elements of it to illustrate how you could be valuable to a company in a senior position.

For example, you stand to make gain better communication and diplomacy skills if you volunteer for a charity and work in Africa. If you get involved in a building project, then you can show how good your managing skills are. You could learn a lot from solving problems in the business area.

It's not whether you have changed careers that interests an executive search firm; it's why, and what you've learned that could benefit their clients. The change might just be exactly what a client wants. It's up to you to turn it into the positives that could win you your next job.

With the right medical coding training, you will possess the skills to land a great job in the growing healthcare industry.
