My Unremarkable Day At The OB/GYN Clinic

I was in my OB/GYN's sitting area. There were a lot of people waiting since my OB/GYN is one of the esteemed consultants of a reputable hospital in our city. To kill the time, I grabbed one of the magazines stacked on the side table. It featured the Royal Family of Spain in their summer home in Majorca. There were pictures of them in magazine feature, too. The article also mentioned that the royal family apparently likes sailing. That made me think about family holidays to Majorca 2013. I might be able to get a close glimpse of the family if I go there for the summer, too.

Then the secretary of my OB/GYN called my name. The doctor is now ready to see me. I reluctantly put back the magazine. My vitals were obtained by the nurse. She had to check my blood pressure, too. It was at that instant that I knew I gained weight. I was concerned about my blood pressure. She said not to worry because it is just in the normal category.

I sat down then I remembered the magazine. It was disappointing to see, that the magazine I was reading earlier wasn't there anymore. I wanted to completely read the article. With it gone, there's just no way for me to be able to finish it. In the end, I just sat there and listened to the conversations around me. It wasn't long after that I was called back in. My OB/GYN is now ready to see me. She wanted to know how my health was. She wanted to know the reason for my visit. It was time for my annual physical exam and my annual well-woman exam.

Papanicolaou test often called pap smear is a screening test. It identifies cancerous cells in the cervix area of the female reproductive system. A Greek doctor Georgios Papanikolaou created this test and it was named afer him. My doctor used a speculum to open up my epithelial canal. She said I should relax. Tensing will make the insertion of the speculum painful, my doctor warned. I took deep breaths to relax myself even though my body reflexively tensed. She collected cells from the entrance of the cervix. It was then dispatched to the laboratory.

My doctor then told me that I have to wait for a few days for the result. After the test, the lab technicians will just put it in a file. It will be up to the messengers who will distribute the results to the respective doctors of the patient. All I have to do is to call up the secretary. She will be the one to relate to me the outcomes of the test. When I did call the secretary, she told me that my result is negative. I have a normal cervix. Thank goodness. The receptionist then said to call us for more information.
